To See and Be Seen: 6 Practices to Open Your 6th Chakra, The Third Eye

The third eye can be stimulated by pulling white light in through your crown chakra.
The third eye can be stimulated by pulling white light in through your crown chakra.

The “third eye” is one of those concepts that floats through spiritual circles, often spoken about with awe or mystery. But what does it actually mean to open your third eye? And how can you do it in a way that feels safe, grounded, and loving?

For us (Luke and Kelly), this has been a living practice. After years of reading, studying, meditating, and experimenting, we’ve found ourselves with eyes — inner and outer — that feel more open, more attuned, more ready to see. What follows is both a reflection of our journey and an offering of practical tools you can try.

What is the third eye?

The third eye, located at the brow centre (between and just above the eyebrows), is a subtle energetic organ of perception. It’s associated with clarity, intuition, inner vision, and the capacity to perceive truths beyond the physical senses.

Opening the third eye isn’t about chasing dramatic visions — it’s about cultivating clarity, compassion, and receptivity. Think of it as polishing a lens: removing distortions, strengthening focus, and allowing more light through.

Practices that support opening the third eye

1. Clean water, clear sight

We found fluoride reduction (filtered water, fluoride-free toothpaste, or simply blessing our water) to be a powerful first step. When you drink consciously, your body learns: it is safe and beautiful to receive.

Try: Hold a glass of water, notice its clarity, breathe gratitude into it, and sip slowly.

2. Breathwork & meditation

One simple practice:

  • Inhale and gently squeeze your pelvic floor. Imagine energy rising up your spine.

  • As you exhale, soften and let the energy “pool” at the third eye.

  • On the last breath, visualise a soft white or indigo light entering through the crown and gathering at your brow.

Even 2–5 minutes of this can shift your perception.

3. Seeing beauty as training

The third eye opens more easily when we tell it: It is safe and wonderful to see.

Practice a “beauty scan” each day: notice three small, beautiful details (sunlight on a leaf, a child’s laugh, the curve of a stone). Say them aloud or write them down.

Seeing beauty is seeing truth.

4. Being seen

Sometimes we resist seeing because we’re afraid of being seen. Mirror work helps:

  • Look softly into your eyes and say, “I see you. I love you. I am safe to be seen.”

  • Or, take a selfie that pleases you, and keep it as a quiet reminder of your own beauty.

5. Sacred sensuality

Intentional sexual or sensual activity can help clear and energise the third eye and crown. When kundalini rises, it carries life-force energy upward through the chakras. The key is safety, consent, grounding, and aftercare (hydration, journaling, rest).

6. Plant and fungi allies

Mushrooms in particular can burst open the third eye. Even after a single journey, you may notice “bleeds” of perception — flashes, visions, breakthroughs.

If you feel called to these paths, proceed with respect: proper preparation, safe setting, skilled guides, legal awareness, and integration practices are essential.

Signs your third eye is opening

  • More vivid colours, flashes of light, beams or rainbows in your vision.

  • Beauty feels everywhere; you see people and things with softer, clearer eyes.

  • A sense of neutrality and calm about the future.

  • Bright, awake, receptive eyes.

  • Glimpses of spirits or subtle energies.

  • Stronger meditation visuals or intuitive “downloads.”

Common pitfalls & how to rebalance

  • Over-intensity. Big openings can be destabilising. Balance them with grounding rituals: barefoot walking, earthy meals, or time in nature.

  • Nervous system strain. Too much energy flow can overwhelm. Practices like yoga nidra, humming, chanting, or simply resting can restore balance.

  • Chasing visions. Remember: not everything you see is literal. Ask, “Is this symbolic, passing, or an invitation?” Journaling helps track patterns.

  • Neglecting integration. Closing matters as much as opening. Always end with a grounding ritual — hand on heart and brow, a breath of thanks, a sealing mantra.

A simple ritual to try

  1. Sit comfortably. Inhale, lifting energy from pelvic floor to third eye.

  2. Imagine white light entering your crown and pooling behind your brow.

  3. Whisper: “I see steadily. I see safely. I see in service of love.”

  4. Place one hand on heart, one on brow. Breathe three times.

  5. Imagine warm earth-coloured light stabilising you.

  6. Ground by placing your feet on the earth and moving your body in a way that feels good.

Final reflections

Opening the third eye isn’t about escaping reality — it’s about seeing more of it: the beauty, the truth, the subtle threads of connection.

For us, the key ingredients have been:

  • Cleansing (water, fluoride reduction),

  • Energy practices (breath, meditation, kundalini),

  • Perceptual training (seeing beauty),

  • Emotional healing (mirror work, being seen),

  • Sacred amplification (plant medicines), and

  • Grounding integration (rest, discernment, love).

This process can be slow, but it is real, and it is here.

May this guide help you to see — and to be seen — with clarity, gentleness, and joy.
